Donkey Kong Known as DK to his family and friends, this good-natured, banana-loving ape is the future ruler of Kongo Bongo. Although not too bright sometimes, DK is pure of heart, and just wants to be on everyone's good side. As future ruler, it is he who is called upon to protect the mystical Crystal Coconut, and to chase away the reptilian foes who would take it. Although he very rarely gets mad, when he loses his cool, DK is quite a fearsome sight. DK's two greatest loves in life are bananas and his girlfriend, Candy.

Diddy DK's best friend Diddy is a mischievous little monkey who's always joking around and playing pranks on the other islanders. Although he loves hanging out with DK, he has been known to resent his position as 'second banana' when it comes to protecting the Crystal Coconut. When he's not palling around with DK, Diddy spends his time with his girlfriend, Dixie. Diddy's generally good natured, but has a quick temper at times, and he can get impatient with DK. His life long ambition is to be a hero like his big buddy.

Cranky A father-figure and mentor for DK, Cranky is the most wise and respected ape on the island. True to his name, he does become quite cranky at times, due to the foolishness of the other apes, especially Donkey Kong. Cranky guards the Crystal Coconut, which is kept safe in a spherical, blue case in the center of his cabin. The thing about Cranky is he doesn't tolerate tomfoolery, but that doesn't mean he has no sense of humour. He often plays pranks on the others, just for a bit of fun... And to teach them lessons!

Candy The banana of DK's eye, Candy knows the way to his heart is banana cream pie! Candy works at the barrel factory, where she is constantly hit on by her sleazy boss, Bluster. Fortunately, she knows how to handle his advances well, and he always ends up second best. DK isn't immune from her fiery attitude, either. Although she likes DK, she (like everyone on the island) often gets frustrated with his foolishness, and even if he means well, sometimes she doesn't have the patience to deal with his goofy nature.

Bluster The big sleaze himself, Bluster fancies himself as Kongo Bongo's richest business-ape. In truth, though, the business he runs (and the barrel-copter) is actually owned by his mother. Nevertheless, he constantly brags of his success to the 'knuckle draggers' - DK and Diddy, neither of whom care. Bluster also fancies himself as competition for DK in winning Candy's heart, and is extremely jealous of happy-go-lucky DK, who is not only Candy's boyfriend, but also the future ruler of Kongo Bongo Island. That's just not fair!

Funky A laid-back ape with a mellow temperament, Funky's great passions are surfing and relaxing. Somehow, amidst the hectic beach-bum lifestyle he leads, Funky manages to operate his own business - Funky's Flights. His biplane can transport fresh banana shipments, oversized packages and other valuable cargo, or simply provide him and two passengers with a wild and wacky ride high above the island. Funky's accent hints that he might have flown all the way from Jamaica to live on Kongo Bongo. Copasetic!

Dixie Only visiting the other apes occasionally, Dixie is somewhat of a loner. Of course, she often hangs out with Diddy... when he's not too tied up with helping DK take on the lizards, that is. Dixie's also good friends with Candy, and is like a little sister to her, but Candy doesn't have much free time for Dixie either thanks to her job at the barrel factory. This might sound sad, but at least she has some pets to keep her company. Unfortunately, Dixie also has a dreadful habit of misplacing her pets around the island!
